THE BROCKLESBY PROTEST
AT SOUTH KILLINGHOLME
BACK

Over 100 protesters gathered at South Killingholme to 'greet' Margaret Beckett who was attending a reception there to open CPH Power Station on Monday 1st November. The Brocklesby in whose country the plant lies were joined by representatives of other local packs - the Burton , South Wold, Grove & Rufford, Holderness, and York & Ainsty South, as well as the Lincolnshire Coursing Club.

The group spent over three hours at the gates exchanging banter with police who had no need to bring in their dogs or horses which were swiftly put in to position lest we cause 'trouble'. A keen interest was taken in the demonstration by local TV., Radio and Newspapers.

Warming refreshments were provided from within the plant and were greatly appreciated on a decidedly cool morning.Mrs Beckett was whisked in later than anticipated but a message was relayed that if we 'behaved' she would meet just two of us. To this end Paul Strawson MFH and John Green MFH waited patiently after the main protest dispersed and were granted a few minutes with the minister.

She laid the blame for the current situation firmly at the door of the backbenchers, and said that only the Speaker would be responsible for invoking the Parliament Act.
