The usual mad charge up and down the sandy tracks of Hankley Common was enlivened by a live firing exercise going on at the same time with camouflaged soldiers creeping around in the undergrowth carrying machine guns.
We had a little trouble with our foxes. The mounted one had to resign when his horse objected violently to pulling the drag behind it, and the other found the choice of a bicycle more trouble than it was worth when he found himself having to pedal downhill in the thick sand. He was killed at least twice, according to the whippers-in.

The expressions on the face of the rider in 17, 18 and 31 were thought too frightening for a family website....
