The hunting country lies within an area from Pirbright in the northwest via Guildford and Dorking across to Reigate in the northeast, then south to the Horsham border, southwestwards towards Hindhead and north back to Pirbright.  Within this area we have the western reach of The North Downs, with its chalk soil, the clay farmland to the east and southeast, the sandy hills around Holmbury St. Mary and Peaslake in the centre and yet more sandy soil over in the west.
